8th Grade English
A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain, Tom's friends let him be the person he truly is . Tom and his friends go on a journey to a distant island relying on no one other than each other. In chapter 13 Tom decides to follow his dream and become a pirate. Tom gathers Joe Harper who is down on himself too. After, supposedly stealing some cream, Joe decides to join Tom. They also gather their close friend Huck Finn always up for a new adventure. Later that night steal a raft and paddle down river to Jackson's island. The friends arrive at the island in the dead of night, create a fire and cook up some dinner. They think about the food and the raft they stole and reflect on their crime. They vividly remember that the Bible recites that stealing is a sin. The friends agree that “their piracies should not again be sullied with the crime of stealing” and call it a night.
"Plainly, here were 'two souls with but a single thought.'"
