The lights flickered in old the musty gym as I stepped onto the court. Waiting for my coach to call my name. The opportunity came, it was late in the game, kids were tired and I was ready to go, my coach called my name. I ripped off my shooting shirt. I shuffled nervously over to the three point line and stared at the time on the clock, it read 4.2 seconds. I knew I was one of the options to take the final shot and win the game. I was scared but at the same time I embraced the opportunity that I might take the final shot. The ref slid that'll to my teammate out of bounds. The play was ran and the ball was thrown to a player on my team. The ball flicked off his fingers and the ball ounces right in front on the free throw line, right where I was standing.
I wasn't supposed to shoot that shot, it was given to a teammate not me. I wasn't even supposed to touch the ball, I was the third option. The ball happened to come to me. I took my opportunity to win the game and embraced it. Opt unities come and go, take them as they come.
The ball sat in my hand and I let the ball fly off my hand. The clock with no time left, the ball traveling towards the hoop, over the front of the rim and in. The crowd had roared and my teammates had ran towards me as happy as me. I walked off the court like it was nothing at all, showing no emotion on the outside but feeling elastic on the inside. After the game my coach came up to me and congratulated me on making the right decision to shoot and making it.
Take every opportunity that is given to you, you may miss out on something big. Embracing ever opportunity like it's your last is what will get you through life. I have learned that I should take every opportunity and be happy I took that opportunity no matter the outcome. Every opportunity we take is what makes us who we are.
Opportunities can be as common as a home run or as rare as a grand slam, take advantage of every one.
